The Learning Analytics Center (LA Center), where I serve as the head of the research division, will hold its 3rd symposium on January 7, 2025. The theme is “Symbiotic Learning: Mutual Understanding and Trust Between AI and Humans in Education.” This event is planned and hosted by Professor Shimada and Professor Minematsu from the Data-Driven Innovation Initiative. The content will focus on research findings from the JST CREST and JST PRESTO projects led by these two professors.
We have invited Professor Hiroaki Ogata from Kyoto University and Professor Emiko Tsutsumi from Hosei University as keynote speakers, who will share their cutting-edge insights on this theme. Following their lectures, we will introduce research cases from our university and hold a panel discussion. We invite everyone interested to attend.
From the Smart Learning Design Research Unit of the Division of Digital Society Creation, Project Assistant Professor Xu Xuewang will present a case study and serve as a panelist, and I (Yamada) will participate as a designated discussant for the panel discussion.

Overview:
With the rapid development of AI technology, its introduction into educational settings is accelerating. AI is expected to have various applications, such as personalized learning support, prediction of learning behavior, and analysis of educational data. On the other hand, since there are limits and challenges to the use of AI, building mutual understanding and trust with teachers and learners is essential. In this symposium, we will feature lectures by experts and a panel discussion on the theme of how AI and humans can collaborate and coexist in educational settings while building relationships of trust.
