I am currently a member of the Learning Assessment Special Interest Group under the priority activity areas of the Japan Society for Educational Technology, and I will be giving a presentation titled “Possibilities of Learning Analytics using Fine-grain Data” during the lunch hour on January 31, 2023. While there will be some overlap with the content of the symposium on January 5, I plan to include examples from high school settings in this talk.

I hope this will be a forum for discussing what can be understood and how we can utilize fine-grained learning log data—specifically logs (such as page turns, notes, and markers) from “BookRoll,” a digital teaching material delivery system we have used for research at Kyushu University, as well as logs from learning dashboards.

With the GIGA School Program and the spread of one-to-one devices, I believe many are interested in the use of learning data. While discussions are also taking place at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) and other venues, I hope we can have a discussion that is distinct from those, focusing on what is visible at the research level and how it can be applied to practice.
