Today was an on-campus research exchange meeting. The event was organized to present research findings related to the university’s educational quality improvement project and the educational big data project supported by NICT, and to discuss these with other faculty members to contribute to the improvement of education at Kyushu University. Thank you to all the professors who participated. This is truly the goal of Educational Technology. I presented one project related to educational quality improvement and one related to educational big data.

For the educational quality improvement project, we are working on the introduction of an e-portfolio. As a research progress report, I presented a comparison of subjective evaluations between paper-based reflection sheets and electronic reflection sheets using Mahara. The reflection sheets are used in our university’s Faculty of Arts and Science seminars (compulsory courses for first-year students), where each student writes about what they have thought about during the week leading up to the class at the beginning of the session, and writes about what they felt and thought during the class after the session. Regarding the educational big data project, I presented on the relationship between learning logs and Self-Regulated Learning awareness, which I previously presented at IEEE ICALT 2015. Professor Maruno, Vice President and Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Science, is a leading expert in educational psychology and developmental psychology, and a very famous researcher in metacognition studies strongly related to Self-Regulated Learning theory. He listened with great interest and provided comments that will be very useful for advancing my future research. I was very nervous and broke into a sweat. Thank you very much. His comments regarding points that can be leveraged precisely because ICT can be utilized are something I would like to incorporate as I move forward. Professors from the Faculty of Arts and Science, as well as the Graduate School of Information Science and Electrical Engineering, the Research Institute for Information Technology, and the Center for Educational Materials Development were also present, and I believe we had a very meaningful discussion. Such opportunities are important. While there are opportunities to talk about teaching practices at Faculty of Arts and Science FD sessions, I have never had the chance to have everyone look at and provide feedback on research related to Educational Technology before, but it was enjoyable. I learned a great deal myself. Thank you very much.
