International Co-authored Paper on ICT Utilization and Self-Regulated Learning Accepted

2026年02月26日

The content discussed and researched at EduSummit 2022-2023 (by invitation only), which was held in Kyoto two years ago with support from UNESCO, has been accepted as a paper in the journal Technology, Knowledge and Learning (Google Scholar Matrix #7 in Science and Engineering Education, Impact Factor 3.0)!! We did it!! I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the reviewers, everyone in my group, and especially the leaders, Dr. Doreen Prasse and Dr. Mary Webb. Thank you very much.

At EduSummit, I joined Group 4, the Self-Regulated Learning (SRL) group, where we discussed international research trends and practical implementations of SRL, debating with members on the future directions for research and practice. In particular, from a Learning Analytics perspective, I introduced research findings I have accumulated regarding its relationship with SRL and developed discussions on the evaluation of SRL. We summarized and presented these reports at EduSummit and decided to write a literature review paper afterward. However, since there are already many review papers on SRL and ICT utilization, we decided to write an “umbrella review” paper—a review of review papers.

By dividing the tasks among members—such as deciphering the papers, deciding which ones to target for review, and organizing perspectives—we were able to bring it to completion. I believe interesting findings have been organized. The paper is available via Open Access (thanks to the federation? of Swiss universities to which Dr. Prasse belongs, which covered the costs. Thank you very much), so I would be delighted if those interested in the relationship between self-regulated learning and ICT utilization would read it.

Now, what will the future trends in educational technology look like? With the emergence of generative AI, research on its utilization has increased significantly. Discussions on generative AI will likely continue for some time, but I believe educational technology research will also be tasked with exploring how humans should engage with new technologies—not just generative AI, but any new technology that emerges.

I would be very happy if I could participate in the next EduSummit. I am looking forward to it.
