It took quite some time, but the research on the development and evaluation of a VR system to support the learning of Japanese onomatopoeia related to emotions, which Li-san worked on during her master’s program after graduating from the Yamada Lab, has been accepted by IEEE Access (Impact factor 3.6, Google Scholar Matrix #1 Engineering & Computer Science (general))! First of all, I would like to express my deep gratitude to the reviewers for their careful feedback. I would also like to thank Li-san for her hard work on this paper even after graduation, and Geng-sensei for her support. This research realizes and evaluates a system to support the learning of Japanese emotional vocabulary (such as waku-waku, doki-doki, and ira-ira) using VR, which is intuitive and easy to understand. The evaluation goes beyond simple performance assessment; it uses eye-tracking data to explore the relationship between emotional states during use and learning acquisition. As the PI of this research, I may be biased, but I believe the findings are very interesting. It was a study from which I personally learned a great deal as we progressed.
While VR is expanding in various ways, I feel that there is still much to be done in research to determine what is truly effective. I would like to continue pursuing how VR-based systems should be designed and evaluated in the field of education.
