This month, we received acceptance notifications for two international conferences!

First, three papers submitted by the Yamada Lab to “ICLEA 2025,” an international conference organized by an ICCE SIG, were all accepted. Thank you to the reviewers for your feedback. Two of these three papers represent the first international conference presentations for the authors. Since the conference is being held at our university, I thought it would be a great opportunity. The three accepted papers are as follows:

Xuewang Geng, Sayo Tanaka and Masanori Yamada (2025). Development of a Dual-Layer Feedback System for EFL Writing: From the Perspective of Self-Regulated Learning

This research introduces the development of a system that uses generative AI to provide feedback for improving English writing from the perspective of Self-Regulated Learning.

Kohei Ozaki, Xuewang Geng and Masanori Yamada(2025). Exploring the Use of Learning Analytics to Support High School History Class: A Pilot Study

We are currently having a high school in Fukuoka City use our university’s digital learning material distribution system, “B-QUBE,” and our learning data analysis platform, “Metaboard.” Within the World History Inquiry course, we utilized a teacher-facing learning dashboard called “Activity Monitoring” that runs on Metaboard and primarily analyzes handwritten notes. This paper introduces the benefits and challenges of structuring classes using this tool.

Naohiro Higuchi, Xuewang Geng and Masanori Yamada (2025). Designing a Teacher Inquiry System with Teaching and Learning Analytics Using Fine-Grained Data

This research introduces the design of a support system that visualizes perspectives for class improvement when school teachers use learning dashboards. It aims to support teachers in reflecting on their own classes.

These papers were accepted as Short papers and Posters. As these studies are still in their early stages, I look forward to developing them into even better research.

By the way, regarding ICLEA, thanks to the efforts of the PC chairs, we received more submissions than expected. Thank you very much. Since this is the first time holding this conference, we were unsure of the number of participants and had initially reserved a relatively small venue at our university. However, as we cannot accommodate the expected number of attendees, the venue has been moved to the Shiiki Hall on the Ito Campus. We hope you will join us.

The other conference is AACE eLearn2025, which I also attended last year, and a paper where I am the first author was accepted.

Yamada, M., Aiura, W., and Fukushima, S. (2025). Direct VR Engagement vs. Observation: A Preliminary Research on Shared Cognition, Proceedings of eLearn 2025

In this research, students experience parts of the high school World History curriculum through VR. However, there is not enough time for every class member to use a head-mounted display. Therefore, we conducted a preliminary research study to see if there are differences in presence, shared cognition, and academic performance between students who experienced it via a head-mounted display and those who watched the experience projected on a screen. This is a joint research project with Professor Fukushima from the Faculty of Information Science and Electrical Engineering and his student, Mr. Aiura. As it is a preliminary research study, we submitted it as a Brief paper, and it was accepted as such.
