This paper cross-analyzes logs from an e-Book system and a learning dashboard to identify logs related to metacognitive awareness and academic performance. By using fine-grained data, we can estimate learning awareness and academic performance, and leverage specific learning behaviors that should be considered when developing learning support systems. I aim to pursue research in this direction moving forward. I am relieved to have finally taken this first step.

Li, T., Geng, X., and Yamada, M. (in printing). Emotional Evocation in VR: Evaluating Japanese Psych-Mimetic Word Learning System, Proceedings of IEEE ICALT 2024, accepted as short paper

This paper discusses how to analyze emotional evocation in a VR-based Japanese psych-mimetic word learning support system. We examined the potential utility of a framework for analyzing emotional evocation by applying it to open data. While there are many language learning support systems that utilize VR, I believe there is significant originality in focusing on emotional evocation and examining its validity. Li is a master’s student, and having a paper accepted as a short paper at a CORE B conference is a great achievement. It is an excellent result for a master’s student. There is not much time left until graduation, but I hope she gives it her all.

Since the conference is being held in Northern Cyprus, traveling there is quite difficult. It takes about 30 hours one way to get to Cyprus, followed by a taxi ride… I have been to Cyprus (the south) once before, so I can imagine the travel from the airport to some extent. No, no, it seems I cannot go to Northern Cyprus in the first place. I will be participating online.
