[END]International Joint Research Symposium on Data-driven Education and Learning Environments will be held!

2024年02月11日

As previously announced via various mailing lists, the International Joint Research Symposium titled “Learning Environment Design in the Digital Society – How to Design Learning and its Support in Data-driven Learning Environments” will take place on Tuesday, November 14th, starting from 1:00 p.m. The symposium will be hosted at Kyushu University’s Center for Data-driven Innovation. The focus of the event is to explore the intricacies of designing learning environments and their support systems within data-driven educational settings.

Dr. Stephanie D. Teasley, a Research Professor of the University of Michigan and Director of the National Science Foundation (NSF), will serve as the keynote speaker. Dr. Teasley, a former president of SoLAR (Society for Learning Analytics Research), brings extensive expertise in learning analytics, a field recognized internationally through conferences such as Learning Analytics and Knowledge, which holds a prestigious CORE Ranking A.

The University of Michigan stands at the forefront of Learning Analytics research globally, boasting numerous impactful projects. Dr. Teasley’s work transcends mere data-driven analytics; she delves into the realm of designing learning environments based on diverse learning theories.

Following Dr. Teasley’s keynote address, Dr. Yoshiko Goda (Kumamoto University) and Dr. Nehal Hasnine (Hosei University) will present the outcomes of their collaborative research with Dr. Teasley, followed by a panel discussion.

Simultaneous interpretation will be available for in-person attendees, with 50 interpretation units provided. Please indicate your need for interpretation equipment during registration. Additionally, the event will offer a hybrid format, welcoming online participation.

The detailed program is outlined below, and we eagerly anticipate your participation:

International Joint Research Symposium, Data Driven Innovation Division, Kyushu University
Learning Environment Design in the Digital Society
– How should we design learning and its support in a data-driven learning environment?

The proliferation of GIGA Schools has led to widespread adoption of ICT-based teaching and learning environments across educational levels. While this digitization has generated vast amounts of learning data, optimizing the educational landscape requires thoughtful design rooted in pedagogical theories.

The Digital Society Creation Division of Kyushu University’s Data Driven Innovation Headquarters is committed to exploring the effects and challenges of digitization across various sectors, with a particular focus on the future of education in the digital age. As part of this initiative, the division will launch the Smart Learning Design Research Unit in September 2023, dedicated to advancing digitalized smart education and learning environments.

To kick off this endeavor, the symposium will feature a presentation by Dr. David H. Harris, Research Professor at the University of Michigan’s School of Informatics and Director of the NSF. Dr. Stephanie D. Teasley, Director of the NSF, will deliver the keynote address and participate in the panel discussion.

Date: Tuesday, November 14, 2023, 13:00-16:00
Venue: Inamori Hall, Inamori Foundation Memorial Hall, Ito Campus, Kyushu University (Hybrid event)
