Following the report that our student, Chen, received the Best Paper Award at CELDA 2020, we are pleased to announce that the results from the Learning Analytics (LA) group at EduSummit 2019, which we attended last year, have been accepted for publication in Educational Technology Research and Development (SSCI, Impact factor: 2.303)!! We would like to thank Dr. Dirk Ifenthaler for leading the compilation and serving as the primary author, as well as everyone in the LA working group with whom we held discussions in Quebec. I am also very happy to have achieved this result in an SSCI journal through a great collaboration with co-authors Dr. David Gibson, Dr. Doreen Prasse, and Dr. Shimada.
Ifenthaler, D., Gibson, D., Prasse, D., Shimada, A., and Yamada, M.(in press). Putting learning back into learning analytics: actions for policy makers, researchers, and practitioners. Educational Technology Research Development. doi:10.1007/s11423-020-09909-8
At EduSummit 2019, there were about a dozen theme-based working groups related to education and ICT. Dr. Shimada and I participated in the Learning Analytics TWG, where we brought together our respective practices and discussed what practitioners—such as teachers and those working in the education industry—policy makers, and researchers should do regarding global challenges in expanding LA. As the two participants from Japan, we introduced the results of our joint research with Kyushu University and Kyoto University. We proposed these to UNESCO as a meeting agenda. Each author then further examined, organized, and added to these findings to develop them into a research paper.
The paper is available via Open Access, so we encourage everyone involved in LA, not just researchers, to take a look.
