In this paper, we applied Instructional Design using a collaborative problem-solving approach in STEM education (though the ‘M’ was a bit weak), incorporated the M2B system, and verified its effects. We did not just verify whether knowledge acquisition was promoted; we also examined the relationship between collaborative problem-solving awareness and knowledge acquisition, as well as how collaborative problem-solving awareness differed between students who made good progress in knowledge acquisition and those who did not. Furthermore, we analyzed the characteristics of their utterances during group work. This was quite a laborious piece of work.
This case was demonstrated at Fukuoka Prefectural Itoshima High School. The period during which we were conducting the research for this paper was when it had just been decided that Professor Hiroaki Ogata would be moving to Kyoto University, so things were quite chaotic. Even after Professor Ogata’s departure, we were considering how to expand the Learning Analytics being conducted at Kyushu University into primary and secondary education. It is a research project that started back then. The data is from about two years ago, I believe. It seems we were quietly and steadily advancing Learning Analytics for high schools from an early stage.
Now, the utilization of study logs and the GIGA School Program are emerging, and what is written in this paper and the paper accepted last November aligns with the utilization of study logs and the GIGA School Program. I think Fukuoka Prefecture should be promoting these things. We have a track record in terms of software and practical application; all that is left is the environment. Installing Wi-Fi in classroom environments. If this can be done, I believe various projects can be advanced. I wonder what Fukuoka Prefecture thinks about this. Even though Fukuoka Prefecture is advancing education that utilizes ICT, there are almost no initiatives that have moved beyond using ICT merely as a display device.
