An Introduction to Learning Sciences workshop was held at Shizuoka University to study the fundamentals of learning sciences, which are essential for designing workshops for the Information Librarian Training Project being conducted at the university libraries of Kanazawa University, Nagoya University, and Shizuoka University.

This workshop was aimed at university library staff involved in this project, and the instructor was Professor Hiroyuki Masukawa of Shizuoka University. After an explanation of what the field of learning sciences is and what kind of research findings exist, a workshop was held where we actually experienced these concepts. I participated myself and found it very enjoyable. Unfortunately, I was the only participant from Kanazawa, but the university library staff from Nagoya University and Shizuoka University were very proactive and seemed to be learning in a fun way. I believe that if more highly motivated university staff like this increase, it will create a good environment for thinking about the future of universities as a whole. I feel that faculty-staff collaboration across universities can produce wonderful results if everyone’s awareness is well-aligned. I am looking forward to the future of this project.
