A paper published in 2009 in CALICO (The Computer-Assisted Language Instruction Consortium) has received the Outstanding Article Award. It is a co-authored paper with my mentor, Professor Kanji Akahori (currently Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Education at Hakuoh University).
The certificate has arrived.
It feels like, “Wow!!” And surprisingly, there was a check included!! Although it came with a comment saying, “It’s a small amount, but…”, I am very grateful. This is the first time I have ever received a check. I found myself staring at it intently.
It is my first time receiving a check, but I heard that the fees to cash it in Japan are quite high, and for small amounts, the fees can exceed the face value. Since it seems likely that the fees would exceed the amount for this check, I think I will keep it as a memento.
However, money is not the objective. I am just happy that my paper has been evaluated in this way and is being read by researchers and students around the world.
I would like to thank Professor Kitamura (Tokyo Keizai University) for giving me the hints that led to writing this paper. I am also grateful for the guidance provided by Professor Akahori. Thank you very much. Furthermore, this paper is based on research from my doctoral studies, and I also received guidance in the CSCL seminar coordinated by Professor Hiroshi Kato of The Open University of Japan. I would like to thank Professor Kato and everyone who participated in the CSCL seminar at that time.
However, to conduct good research, it is important to have a place where you can talk casually—not just in seminars, but while drinking tea, sharing jokes, and spinning in your chairs. I used to talk about various research topics with Mr. Kitamura in such settings. This is true for the material paper published in JSET 33(3), and it is also true for the research I am currently pursuing. I am very grateful for that.
Now, time to get back to work on my research!!
